I’ve submitted my application. What happens next?
While each case is unique and every VR application is different, the application process within Arizona generally involves the steps described on this page.
Get a jump on application requirements by gathering the necessary documents now, and review the resources listed below for tips on what to expect.
Application Review
After you submit your application, called an RSA referral, the state of Arizona reviews it and routes it to the appropriate VR field office.
First Appointment
A VR staff member at your local field office will contact you to schedule an initial appointment with a VR counselor to review your application.
VR Counselor Meeting
Gather the required documents and meet with your VR counselor. Be prepared to discuss your situation, your goals, your education, and your work history.
Additional Evaluations
Your VR counselor may decide that other evaluations are necessary to determine your eligibility. You’ll receive guidance from your VR counselor about the additional assessments.
Decision
The state will determine your eligibility for receiving VR services within 60 days of receiving your application. You’ll then request Daivergent as your service provider and begin service.
Required documents
Your VR counselor will ask you to bring documentation to your initial appointment. Gathering the required documents beforehand can result in a smoother and quicker application process. Here’s what you’ll most likely need to bring:
Documentation of your disability, if you have it. If not, your VR counselor can help you obtain your records.
A form of photo ID, such as a Driver’s License or State ID Card.
Your Social Security card.
Documentation that you can or will be able to work legally in the United States. You can bring a Passport, a Green Card, or an I-9 Form.
Award letter if you’re currently receiving Social Security benefits, such as SII or SSDI.
Your resume, if you have one, or basic information about any previous jobs.
